Master’s Degree Programme in Teacher Education

Introduction

This programme is targeted at teachers interested in further developing and deepening their professional competencies and contributing to building better educational opportunities. It utilises in-depth expertise gained in Finland, a country with one of the world’s leading education systems.

The programme provides the insight and competencies to implement the best elements of the Finnish school system in various contexts. Students acquire an extensive understanding of relations between learning, tools, teaching and the curriculum to build effective learning environments and quality work in schools.

Furthermore, the programme offers a firm research-based perspective and competencies to develop individual as well as collegial expertise in the school community. Students strengthen their capability to work in multicultural contexts, to participate in educational discussions and decision-making and make well-grounded ethical choices.

Educators have pedagogical influence, and they play an important role in society. Graduates of this programme are able to practise as expert teachers, mentors or organisers of learning who have the abilities to develop innovative educational practices and curricula. They are also qualified to continue their studies at the doctoral level.
